- Have appliances checked annually
- Ensure the engineer uses a Flue Gas Analyser to confirm the presence or absence of CO.

Use of Carbon Monoxide alarms and Flue Gas analysers are not substitutes for the following:
- All appliances should be checked annually by a CORGI - registered installer.
- Have chimneys swept each year
- Landlords are legally required to ensure that the annual check is carried out.
- Free safety checks are available to those over 60, disabled, chronically sick, deaf or blind who join their suppliers Priority Service Register.
PROTECTION
- Check the colour of gas flames - blue is healthy, yellow or orange indicates a problem
- Check appliances are well vented - never block or cover an appliance, vents or flues
- Look after appliances & use correctly
- Check your health if you suffer from any of the symptoms seek medical advice
- Have you chimney regularly sweep - this clears any blockages such as birds nests, brick debris and soot build up
